Unexplained Infertility

To help maximise your chances of a natural conception you need to fully understand how human fertility works. Too often we are surprised when we stop contraception and fail to conceive. We aren't taught the details of female reproduction and are often unaware of how our body ovulates and when we are most fertile.

As humans we have just an average of a 25% chance of conceiving each month, and that's assuming we are of average age with no fertility health problems. As we age this % goes down, and if ovulation is not regularly occuring or there are problems with sperm it goes down even further.

The good news is...there are things you can do to increase the odds of conception and this will be my focus. We will look at your menstrual cycle in detail as this gives a great indication of how your reproductive health is functioning. We will review lifestlye factors that may be getting in the way of you reaching your optimum health. We will discuss a plan of action. When trying to conceive it's important that you and your partner have a plan in place so that you feel you are always moving toward your goal.

We will agree on an acupuncture plan of treatments. In general and assuming there are no big deficiencies I need to work on, I will treat you at very key times in your cycle:

* Once in the Follicual Phase pre ovulation - this treatment is aimed at increasing the blood flow to the uterus and ovaries to thicken the endometrium and utilise follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) to ensure ovulation occurs Treatment will also be aimed at regulating the hormones and de-stressing the body (Steiner-Victorin 1996 and 2003, Hu et al 1993, Magarelli 2009).

* Once in the Luteal Phase post ovulation - this treatment is aimed at potentialising implantation if you have fertilised an egg that month. Moving blood and energy (Qi) through the uterus.
